Welcome to my Web site! HomeHello, my name is Don McMullen I was born in Oxnard, California. I moved to Port Hueneme when I was 9 years old grew up the oldest of 4 children. I have 2 brothers John & (Mike) and a sister Barbara, my parents were Roy & Opal. When I graduated from Oxnard high school I joined the Air Force to become a pilot but that didn't happen,(Got a few hours in a Piper J 3) so the motor pool got me. After I got out of the Air Force I started working for GTE (now Verizon) company until I could find something better. That stretched into 30 years when I retired. I had two marriages of about 9 years length each to Joy and Jeanie. I have a daughter, Shelly from Joy, and raised a stepson, Joel, with Jeanie. After retiring from GTE I worked as a handy man for 2 years and then I started looking for something better to do with my life. That is when I started Flying Lessons (age 55) and advertised in the news paper for a wife. I finally met Joan and got my private license in 1995 and marriage license in 1996. After renting and researching planes for 2 years I decided to build the RV6A which is named after Richard (Dick) VanGrunsven, the engineer/designer. It took 20 months to finish my quick-build kit and I flew it for the first time in October of 1999. My wife Joan and I flew to Oshkosh about 8 months later, our first long trip. |
